Terms of hire

The plain-English version of what hiring from us involves. Ask us anything here that is not clear.

What to bring the first time

Photo identification, a driving licence or passport, and something showing your current address such as a utility bill. Only the person whose name is on the identification can sign for the hire, because that is the person who takes responsibility for the equipment.

Hiring for a business? Bring company details or a headed letter as well, and we can talk about an account.

Deposits

A deposit is taken on most hires. How much depends on the machine, and we tell you the figure when we quote, never afterwards. It comes back to you when the equipment comes back in the condition it went out.

While you have it

From the moment it leaves the yard until we have it back, the equipment is your responsibility. That means keeping it secure, checking oil, water and fuel daily on anything with an engine, and using it only for what it was built for.

Machines must be used by someone competent to use them. If you are not sure, ask us at the counter and we will show you. That is free and it takes a few minutes.

Damage, loss and fair wear

Normal wear is expected and is on us. Damage is not, and neither are punctures, tyre damage, or worn blades, discs and cutting edges, which are charged at cost.

If equipment is lost or stolen while you have it, the hire charge continues until it is replaced. It is worth checking that your own insurance covers hired-in plant, especially for the larger machines.

Fuel and cleaning

Machines go out fuelled and should come back fuelled. If they come back empty we charge for refuelling. Equipment should come back reasonably clean. If it needs more than a rinse there is a cleaning charge.

Ending a hire

This is the one people get caught by. The hire keeps running until you tell us it is finished. Ring 053 94 80395 to end it, and we will give you an off-hire number. Keep that number. It is your proof of the date the charges stopped.

Leaving a machine back on the yard without telling anyone, or leaving it on site waiting for collection, does not end the hire on its own.

Delivery and collection

Charged on distance and on what is being moved, quoted with the hire. If you are collecting yourself, make sure your vehicle and towbar are rated for the load.

Booking ahead

There is only one of some machines. For a weekend, a bank holiday or anything in the summer, book ahead rather than chancing it.

Anything else

Ask. Ring 053 94 80395 or email accounts@goreyhire.com and we will tell you straight. Nothing here is meant to catch anybody out, and Gorey Hire Centre would far rather answer a question first than have an argument afterwards.
