Handover

When you collect, we go through starting and stopping the machine, the controls you will actually use, the guards and cut-offs, and the jobs it is not suited to. Ask as many questions as you like. It is quicker than fixing a mistake afterwards.

What to bring

• Photo identification and proof of address for first-time hires.
• For plant on a trailer, a vehicle and towbar rated for the load.
• Your own boots, gloves, eye protection and ear defenders.

Tickets and certificates

Some machines need a ticket before you can operate them on a commercial site, and site rules can be stricter than the law. If you are hiring for work, check what your main contractor requires before you book.

On the job

• Read the safety decals on the machine before you start.
• Keep other people, especially children, well clear of the working area.
• Check for underground services before breaking ground.
• Never remove a guard or override a cut-off switch.

If something goes wrong

Stop, make the area safe, and ring 053 94 80395. A machine that is faulty comes back and is replaced. It does not get patched up on site.
